foiled by Broadway lyrics

I was in the path of Hurricane Sandy.  Don't worry, I'm fine, and besides getting cabin fever, I am really no worse for the wear.  As a matter of fact, I spent a great deal of time writing!  I just passed 80 thousand words this morning and I'm in the midst of Chapter 17.  I'd say I'm about 80% done, maybe a little more.  I thought at one point that the entire novel would be 80K words but apparently not!

Anyway, last night I wrote the phrase "Spring unfurled its green splendor...." and something about it kept nagging at me.  It seemed awfully familiar.  So I googled "unfurled splendor" and the lyrics to "Music of the Night" from Phanton of the Opera came up.  This was completely unsurprising given that I'm a huge Broadway geek.

I changed it to "unfurled its fresh green wings" instead.

But it made me wonder how many other phrases I've absentmindedly absorbed that have leaked out in other parts of my writing.   Guess I'll have to be on the lookout for that when I'm editing!
