It's amazing how quickly an ego can deflate with the tiniest pinprick of negativity, isn't it?
I am choosing to deal with this poor excuse for a human in a constructive way and am not letting his or her (I am guessing her) asshattery deter me.
In contrast to the way a rude remark can bring self-esteem crashing down, it often takes quite a bit more positive reinforcement to build up one's sense of self. Yet, yesterday just a tiny compliment, a reader going out of his way to point out one very specific thing that resonated with him about my writing really went a long way for me.
He told me he was particularly captivated by the following sentence in Mountains Wanted:
"The words fluttered out
like snowflakes, so softly that they melted in his eyelashes."
I remember writing that line. It happens during a critical scene between the two main characters. I wanted just the right touch in the delivery of the "words" referenced prior to this sentence. I was pleased with the simile and it made me so happy to hear that such a simple line stuck out in the mind of one of my readers.
Thank you for sharing that with me yesterday. You have no idea how badly I needed to hear it. And a lesson to all of us - just the tiniest compliment can deliver the shiniest golden burst of sunshine to someone in need.
As much as I am trying to stay away from that cesspool, I just went to see the comment. I am glad it was deleted. As I said on a previous comment, misery loves company. Miserable trolls need to be ignored/banned depriving them of the attention they seek.

Agreed, Kofla. This particular miserable individual has now created four profiles to harass me with. I wish I had that kind of time to devote to writing, let alone to being a hateful asshole. LOL
